Introduction

Nowadays, exclusive villages and subdivisions are sprouting like mushrooms everywhere in Cavite. Among the many benefits residents appreciate most is the sense of security provided by developers — 24-hour guards, surveillance cameras, high perimeter fences, and other measures to ensure safety. Living in such gated communities makes one feel secure and less anxious about crime.

The Gospel Connection

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, uses the image of a gate and a sheepfold to describe His role and what it means to belong to Him. These images point to protection, safety, and well-being. They reinforce the idea of the Good Shepherd who guards His flock and gives His life for it (cf. 1 Peter 2:25). To belong to Jesus is to live with certainty of His care and love. Through Him, the gate and the way (cf. John 14:6), we participate in the life of God.

The first reading explains how we become participants in this divine life: through baptism in Jesus’ name and by the power of the Spirit (cf. Acts 2:38).

Remaining in Jesus

Another important issue in the Gospel is how to remain in Jesus. To remain in Him means to be true and faithful to His teachings. The Church exists to continue proclaiming Jesus and His teaching. As we humbly listen and obey the voice of the Shepherd through His Church, we are led to the truth that makes us truly free.

Abundant Life

By remaining rooted in Jesus and His teachings, we are assured of the abundant life He offers: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). He is the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls (1 Peter 2:25).

Conclusion

Just as gated communities provide a sense of security, Jesus offers us something far greater — eternal protection, care, and love. To remain in Him is to live in freedom, truth, and abundance.

“Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd, keep me close to You, that I may live in Your care and truth.”
