Monday 16th Week in Ordinary Time
“Red means STOP, green means GO, yellow means WAIT…” This nursery rhyme reminds us of traffic lights—simple signs that guide our actions. We stop when the light turns red, cross when it turns green, and wait when it turns yellow. Signs matter. They give direction, approval, and recognition.
Just as some of the Scribes and Pharisees demanded signs from Jesus (Matthew 12:38), we too often look for signs in our lives. A memo from a manager congratulating workers is a sign of affirmation. A mother’s hug is a sign of love.
Jesus Himself is the greatest sign of the Father’s love. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Sadly, many failed to recognize this sign in their lives. Yet God continues to affirm and embrace us through daily events, moments of grace, and encounters with others.
We too are called to be signs for others. By living out good deeds, as Jesus commanded (John 13:34–35), we become visible reminders of God’s love. Our kindness, compassion, and service can be signs that point people to Christ.
God Himself is always a sign—sacred, infinite, good, and near. The challenge is whether we allow our lives to reflect Him.
So the question remains: Are you still a sign? Do your words and actions point others to the God who is love, mercy, and life?
