Overcoming Negativity

The WORD in other words (2019) by Fr Jose Rizal Santos SVD – Japan

Friday 2nd Week of Advent

People feel good and confident when they get along pretty well with their friends and neighbors. It‘s no surprise when our ideas and wishes don‘t coincide. Each person has his or her own perception or view in life. In fact, it is quite normal  to accept the uniqueness of each person, their strengths and weaknesses.

However,  it is such a burden when two people never agree or blend with each other. They grievously or seriously oppose one another.

This is what the Lord is warning us about in today‘s Gospel. People have nothing in their minds except to criticize and look down on others. They behave like mortal enemies.

How do we deal with such people? It‘s easy to choose one‘s friends or companions.   But it cannot be avoided when we encounter people with such personalities.

We need  a lot of patience and perseverance to sustain such negative or antipathetic vibrations. Through Christ‘s shining example of accepting every person, may the Holy Spirit guide us to show kindness and understanding. This will help win the hearts and hopes of people who have lost their trust and appreciation for one another. More fervently, we should display our complete trust in the unfathomable Divine Mercy of the Risen Lord. We must continuously seek forgiveness of our sins.
