The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Roberto Alda SVD – Germany
Tuesday 29th Week in Ordinary Time
Last week, I buried a 93-year-old man. He was nine years a widower and is survived by his only son, grandson and daughter-in-law. From them I learned that the old man was very active, traveled a lot with his Mercedes and still had many future plans. He was not expecting to die this year. Death came as a big surprise.
Yesterday, I buried a 52-year-old lady who died from complications after receiving a kidney transplant. She had lived 20 years with her boyfriend, very sporty, went swimming, jogged, ate healthy, traveled a lot and was very interested in experiencing other countries and cultures. According to her boyfriend, she was in fact already planning her next trip this summer. Death came as a big surprise.
Jesus speaks of the importance of being faithful and ready. Christians do not squander their time in useless and non-sensical things and activities. Time is precious in the eyes of God. And we do not have the luxury of it. Our time is limited and we only have this time at hand. Every day could be our last day.
