The WORD in other words by Fr Antonio Enerio SVD – Switzerland
Monday 13th Week in Ordinary Time
“I don’t know Who – or what –put the question, I don’t know when it was put. I don’t even remember answering. But at some moment I did answer Yes to Someone – or Something – and from that hour I was certain that existence is meaningful and that, therefore, my life, in self-surrender, had a goal. (Dag Hammarskjöld)
This passage came as an inspiration when I read the Gospel for today. It reminded me of my personal calling. My saying‘yes’ to God in religious life has made a difference in my life.
As the eldest and only boy among six siblings, I was expected to help send my sisters to school. But I left my parents and turned away from this responsibility for a higher purpose in life.
The demand to follow Him, the cost to be his disciple is high and can be painful. His invitation to follow him is not always smooth and easy, not a bed of roses. But working with the Filipino migrants in Switzerland has given me more joys and blessings, more inspiration too in following him.
I left my family but I also found my families in here. I found sisters and brothers who are willing to listen and understand the challenges that I encounter and are willing to accompany me in my journey. That for me is the pay check for the cost of being his disciple.
If in life there are re-runs and new beginnings, I would still take the path that I have taken for it has made my life meaningful.
