Time for Jesus

The WORD in other words (2022) by Fr Dudz Lero SVD – Holy Name University of Tagbilaran, Bohol

Thursday 2nd Week of Easter

Absence of prayer life, non-attendance in liturgy, lack of enthusiasm in Church involvement, affronts against Christian teachings, denunciation of the Church, erosion of moral values, loss of spiritual vigor, dying faith: these realities are persistently growing. We thank the Lord therefore for the gift of insight to our Church leaders who introduced the concept of new evangelization, coined by John Paul II and picked up by Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.

New evangelization primarily looks into de-Christianized and secularized societies. As Pope Benedict XVI puts it, this is bringing the gospel “to those regions awaiting the first evangelization and to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization.” New evangelization is like a beacon of light aimed at dispersing the darkness that shadows human recognition of his spiritual heritage.

It is about time to bring the light of faith back to the fore of human life and the world. It is about time to recognize once more that we have a transcendent component that needs attention and nourishment. It is about time that we need to realize that it is eternal life that we aspire for and not just the life in the world. It is about time to put an end to the crisis of faith. It is time to get to know Jesus once more.
