The WORD in other words (2022) by Fr Gil Alejandria SVD – Catholic Trade Manila
Monday 2nd Week of Easter
How do you proclaim the good news?
The missionary priests and brothers of the Society of the Divine Word scattered all over the world have answered this question in diverse ways.
Many have left their own countries to dedicate their lives in service to people of other cultures. Some build churches, some establish schools, some organize communities into future parishes. Some become advocates of the care of the environment. Others fight for justice and human rights with a special preference for the poor and marginalized. Some make use of technology and social media to communicate the message of the Gospel.
The missionaries learn to adapt and adjust to the needs of the people they serve. They learn to discern the signs of the times and strive to respond accordingly. They discover that there are many ways by which one can proclaim the good news. It is not merely the act of speaking or preaching with words, but by concrete actions that make visible the word being proclaimed.
Above all these, proclaiming is done by witnessing: by our example we practice what we preach. Our lives are the concrete proclamation of the good news. We are the good news when we comfort the afflicted, fight for justice, help the poor, and feed the hungry. Our good deeds are the most effective proclamation of the good news.
