Lent emphasises the value of conversion, of moving away from a life of sin through sacrament of reconciliation. Divine Word Missionary priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Quezon City provided such opportunity for the thousands of inmates in Quezon City Jail.
There are more or less 4 500 inmates in the facility built for 800 persons who were arrested for various alleged offences. Many of them have been held in the facility without having seen a court trial, sentenced nor acquitted.
The visit of the Divine Word Missionaries to offer the sacrament of reconciliation put into life the words of Jesus in Matthew 25,36 “For I was… in prison and you visited me.”
