The WORD in other words (2006) by Fr Florante Camacho SVD – Tagbilaran, Bohol
Thursday 9th Week in Ordinary Time
Every Holy Thursday, during Holy Week, all Christians recall Jesus’ Mandatum: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). This great commandment summarizes the whole Law of the Old Testament — the Ten Commandments, love of God and love of neighbor.
Today, St. Mark reminds us that this two-fold love is better than “all burnt offerings and sacrifices” (Mark 12:33). The way Jesus loved humankind should be the way all His followers love each other — serving one another until it hurts, even unto death on the Cross (Philippians 2:8).
Humbly, let us acknowledge that we cannot do this by ourselves. We need an inner strength to love as Jesus loved. That strength is the Holy Spirit. “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).
Ask Him to come today and fill you with His power. Only then can we truly participate in building His kingdom on earth.
