Monday 6th Week of Easter
Introduction
A recent news story told of a young man from Dumaguete, Negros Oriental who accidentally discovered a technology of “putting fish to sleep” and bringing them back to life even after nine hours of travel without water. While experimenting on groupers in Palawan in 1987, he developed an anti-stress solution that placed fish in hibernation, allowing them to be transported safely over long distances.
Beyond its practical implications, the very act of putting fish to sleep and reviving them seems almost miraculous. If human ingenuity can achieve this, how much more should we believe in the promises of the Lord?
Faith in God’s Power
Jesus assures us: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). The miracle of life restored in fish is but a faint reflection of the greater miracle God promises us — eternal life.
The early Church bore witness to this power. “The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people” (Acts 5:12). These signs were not theirs alone but the work of God through them. The same Spirit continues to work in us today, though our lack of faith often limits our witness. As Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
Looking Within
Let us begin each day by looking deeper into ourselves and marveling at how wonderfully we are created by God: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). If we can believe that fish can be revived after hours of hibernation, then surely we can believe that we will be raised to life on the last day. St. Paul reminds us: “He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
Conclusion
The miracle of life — whether in science or in faith — points us to the greater truth: God’s Spirit dwells in us, guiding us toward eternal life. Let us trust His promise, obey His Word, and live as witnesses of His love.
“Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith in Your promise of resurrection, and let my life be a living testimony of Your presence.”
