Friday 34th Week in Ordinary Time
Several months ago, I read in the newspaper about a very interesting event that took place in Davao – a basketball game between government forces and the MILF rebels! According to that news item, the two warring groups spent one whole day together, laying down their rifles and bullets and arming themselves instead with the armaments of laughter, joy and friendship to win not just the game but also to win each other’s heart.
The news item reports that this game for peace was made possible through the efforts of the youth in that place! They invited the two parties to come together for such a unique activity and got a resounding positive response. These young people were able to bring together to the table of peace people who are accustomed to killing each other for certain causes, ideologies or philosophies in life.
Add this event to thousands more all over the world that seek, unassumingly but enduring nonetheless, to realize the presence of the Kingdom where peace, harmony, and charity break the barriers of possibility.
“…When you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near!” In fact with events like these, unnoticed and hugging only the footnotes of media, the Kingdom is already here.
