Feast of Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael – September 29
Whenever a Filipino wishes good fortunes for another, he usually says, “Magdilang angel ka sana” to mean literally “May you have the tongue of an angel” or simply “May your wish for me come true.”
One may allude this to the angel Gabriel who announced to Mary that she will give birth to God’s only Son. The angels, particularly the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are heavenly spirits in the service of God. Their function is to protect God people from bodily and spiritual harm. The archangels help us to remain faithful to God by warding off sin and evil in our life.
The Archangel Michael is known as the defender of God and promoter of God’s justice. Whenever a Christian defends and protects the teaching of Christ, he / she acts under his protection.
The Archangel Gabriel is God’s messaged. Whenever a Christian carries the good news or inspires others to do good, then he / she acts under his protection.
The Archangel Raphael is known as the healer. Whenever a Christian helps or facilitates the healing of mind, soul or body, he / she acts under his protection.
These Archangels are always near to us in a similar manner that they are near to Jesus, ascending and descending upon Jesus. We, too, can therefore be archangels of God to others. We may not look like them, but certainly our good deeds speaks more eloquently when we act like them. May we become archangels to God’s people especially the poor and the unfortunate.
