What keeps us alive?

The WORD in other words (2009) by Fr Jerry Orbos SVD – Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City

Tuesday 10th Week in Ordinary Time

The Lord reminds us today that salt, one of the t basic seasonings, can lose its taste.  In connection with this, I have a question in my mind for many years now:  Does poison lose its potency after some time?  Does poison have an expiry date?

Can Christians lose their “taste” and their “light”? So as not to lose our taste, as not to lose our “potency”, and to continue shining as light, we Christians must not forget metanoia, koinonia, diakonia, and kergyma in our daily lives:

Metanoia

We must be open to conversion at any moment of our lives.  We must never say “enough!” because there will always be lessons to be learned, realizations to be valued, relationships to be healed and strengthened, and moments to be cherished.

Koinonia

We need fellowship.  We need prayer.  We need a community to support and sustain us.

  Diakonia

Without service, outreach, or apostolate, the flame of faith soon dies.  Our prayer life should lead us to true service, and our service should lead us to deeper prayer.

Kerygma

The Christian’s life is one big proclamation, not only by words, but by one’s own witnessing.  The Christian proclaims and point to someone greater than himself/herself.

Let us not forget Maria and Eucharistia and Biblia to keep us aflame, alert, and alive!
