Power of Love

The WORD in other words (2012) by Fr Ferdinand Alfante SVD – Saint Jude Catholic School, Manila

Thursday 5th Week of Easter

“Are you in love?” asked one to her friend. “Why are you asking me that question?” she asked in reply. The person then explained, “It is because you act differently. You speak with passion and joy.”

I believe that everyone has experiences of either being loved or being in love or both. However, many people today are still searching and longing to be loved. Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said, “The hunger for love is more difficult to remove than the hunger for love.”

Jesus said in today’s Gospel: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you.” To be loved by someone is already a given because Jesus our Lord has already loved us. Just believe in his love. The crisis of this present generation is the acceptance of being loved and the openness to love.

Do you want to be happy? Just remain in love. Remain in God’s love. Jesus said, “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and    your joy might be complete.” Thus he begged us “Remain in my love.”

How do we remain in God’s love? Keep his commandment of love. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Mother Teresa lived her whole life is God’s love. She left us a message on how to remain in God’s love as she said. “Smile each other, smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children, smile at each other — it does not matter who they are — and that will help you to grow in greater love for each other.
