Transforming Power in Acceptance

The WORD in other words (2009) by Fr. Mike Mahinay, SVD – Loreto, Surigao del Norte

Thursday 4th Week of Easter

What a wonderful feeling it is to be accepted! The opposite, which is rejection, is quite hurting, more so if others show utmost indifference towards you!

As a young missionary to a South American country in my first mission assignment, the acceptance  and warm welcome of the VERBITAS (SVDs), the Filipino community and my classmates in the language school, impressed me so much. This experience inspired me to hasten my skills to learn a foreign  language which eventually helped me to adjust well to a new culture.

Blessed are we if we experience acceptance because it gives us an inspiration in our daily undertakings, it is a heart-warming affirmation of  our positive performance.

But if we experience the contrary, this should not discourage us. Instead, we have to take reflection as a challenge for us to be stronger and make it an inspiration to do better if not the best, just as Christ did!
