Silent Worker, Saint Joseph

I have a friend who, after watching a movie, would painstakingly read all the names of the people behind the production of the film, like the film editor, the production designer, director of photography, executive producer, etc., up to the last name of the crew.

When I asked him why is he doing that, he said: “We normally enjoy watching the movie. It is only proper to give due recognition to the people behind the scene. Every movie would not be a success without them. Unfortunately, they are normally forgotten. We normally know more about the main casts. At least, by reading their names, I am giving them due respect and recognition.

Saint Joseph, the Worker, the saint we honor today belongs to the category of people who works behind the scene. If there is a person besides the Blessed Mother who really helped Jesus in his life and mission that would be Saint Joseph. He is the silent carpenter, the silent worker who knew very well his role and responsibilities in this life. He did not took the center stage but his presence was felt. I believed he influenced Jesus a lot by being that silent role model.

As we honor Saint Joseph today, let us thank the people behind the scenes of our lives. They are those who sacrificed for us. They are our parents, our siblings, our relatives and our friends. We are who we are today because of them. They deserve to be served and loved in return.

Saint Joseph please be their intercessor and their protector.
