What matters most…

The WORD in other words (2013) by Fr Jonathan Letada SVD – Balabac, Palawan

Monday 8th Week in Ordinary Time

Christian Life is a life of a discipleship. Discipleship means a commitment of following Jesus. And following Jesus involves giving up the most valuable securities in life and to be secured solely to him. Security for modern man and woman today can be illustrated as something that matters most in one’s life. In fact, what matters most for us is what we hold on, where our heart is, what defines us, what is important to us, where our energy goes, what we hope for, and we hat treasure. Are you ready to give them up for Christ?

Here is a beautiful prayer I kept from our a one-month spiritual direction course I attended in East Asian Pastoral Institute. I believe this is worth reflecting as we continue to heed Jesus’ call to follow him in a specific chosen vocation. It is entitled “What Matters Most Is”.

What matters most is...
Not that I see you, but that you pursue me in all my journey. (Gen 3,9)
Not that I hail you by your name.
But that you have mine inscribed in the palm of your hand. (Is 49,16)
What matters most is ...
Not that I cry out when I am lost for words,
but that you groan within me with your crying. (Rom 8,26)
Not that I have plans for you
But that you beckon me to walk with you towards the future (Mk 1,17)
What matters most is...
Not that I fathom you, but that you grasp me in my deepest mysteriousness. (1 Cor 13,12)
Not that I speak of you with great insight
But that you dwell in me and express yourself in your idiom. (2 Cor 4,10)
What matters most is...
Not that I keep you tight under lock and key, but that I am a sponge in the depths of the ocean.
Not that I love you with all my heart and all my strength,
But that you love me with all your heart and all your strength.
