The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Glenn Paul Gomez SVD – Christ the King Seminary Quezon City
Jesus’ life on earth was filled with so much pain. He came to love, serve and redeem humankind but he was misjudged, persecuted and eventually crucified.
One of the worst experiences of Jesus was to be identified with satan as narrated in today’s Gospel: “By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons.”
One day, a fellow priest came to me and said, “Alam mo, Glenn, ako na yata ang pinakamasamang tao sa balat ng lupa, mas masama pa yata ako kay satanas!” ( You know Glenn, I think I am the most evil person on earth, more evil than Satan!) He was accused of so many things that he thought of leaving the ministry. But, thank God, reading this biblical passage gave him strength and made him offer to Jesus the persecution he was experiencing.
I, too, have personal experiences of being judged by mean people. Aside from offering those painful experiences to Jesus, I created a mental protection system within me that says: Your judgment of me does not define me; it only defines who you are!
Another helpful passage is: Don’t worry about the backstabbers. They’re the people who try their hardest finding faults with your life instead of fixing the faults in theirs.
