The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Franz Gassner SVD – Macau, SAR China
Computers, mobile phones, and other digital appliances are run through microchips. They are manufactured in an especially prepared environment, which must be clean and sterile, free from any hostile particular matter, quite similar to an Operating Room in a hospital. Any kind of pollution speaks ill for the development and production of such integrated electronic devices.
In the first reading (Year 2 Ezekiel), it is God who cleanses us humans from every form of pollution and stain of sin in order that we can live and function properly according to his image and plan.
“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ez 36:25-26).
In a similar way, in the Gospel, the Lord calls us to get properly prepared for our tasks and functions in witnessing the Kingdom of Heaven. His invitation is urgent and the time is pressing, and He himself wants to clean us and to dress us up to become fully part of the coming feast.
Only those cleansed and well prepared can take up important tasks and stewardship in view of the Kingdom of Heaven. “Blessed are those with pure heart, for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8).
