Finding Our Road to Life

The WORD in other words (2018) By Fr Dindo Santiago SVD – Japan

Tuesday 12th Week in Ordinary Time

Aichi Prefecture, where Nagoya is located, is quite notorious for its high rate of traffic accidents; it registered the highest number of road fatalities in 2015. One reason is that Aichi has good wide roads. Drivers, thus, become rough, reckless, and careless in following traffic rules, leading to potential accidents.

Our path to life takes on a similar flight. We know the rules, and most of them we have heard since we were kids. The Golden Rule is one of them. “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.” But no matter how many times we hear these words, it is as if we are hearing it for the first time.

Is it because we have been unaware of the many important things along the way? Recall the moments when we have been overspeeding, reckless and incautious in our life journey.

Maybe it is time now for us to slow down a bit and pay special attention to the signs and rules that we have learned or have been taught. We tend to forget so easily, or perhaps overlook so many things.

Now is the time for us to pause and reflect, and be among the few who find the road that leads to life, no matter how narrow it may be.
