The WORD in other words (2013) by Sister Mildred Arcos SSpS – Capitols Hills, Quezon City

Thursday 8th Week in Ordinary Time

The Manila Bulletin issue of January 18 2012 featured what is called international blindness. The article stated that “wearing headphones, meaning, a distraction, lowers the resources the brain devotes to external stimuli.” A number of pedestrians have been killed because of wearing headphones. There were 16 in 2004, and 47 in 2007.

Nowadays, we are still wearing headphones which cause our blindness like addictions, obsessions, passionate attachements to materials things and persons, overzealous pursuits of power, money and prestige, or just plain laziness, carelessness and mindlessness.

What is the headphone of distractions am I wearing which causes my blindness to the Holy Spirit? Am I aware of these blind spots and do I accept them with humility?

With the same humility, we can beg Jesus for healing regardless of what people say. “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”

Yes, God knows the cry of the poor. Indeed, God’s compassion goes out to the needy who cries for help. The blind mas who knows his needs sees again.
