In God I Trust

The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr John Seland SVD – Japan

Saturday 7th Week in Ordinary Time

One evening, at a restaurant dinner in Nagoya, I noticed a young man carrying his three or four year old daughter to a table near mine. The little girl was completely content sitting there with her father, even though they hardly said a word to each other. “He is my father who loves me,” she seemed to be saying. “He is in charge of everything. He has taken very good care of me up to now. Why should I worry about anything?”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” (Mark 10,15) I think he is talking about the virtue of trust. And I believe he is saying that as a child loves and trusts his parents, so must we trust God. That is what we read in Proverb 3:5. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Each of those words carries great weight.

We trust in God, no matter what the circumstances may be. Whether we feel well, or whether some problems occur, we trust completely in God. He took very good care of us in the past; He is taking very good care of us now; and He will take very good care of us in the future, regardless of what may happen. I trust in him with all my heart.

Prayer:

Jesus, please strengthen my trust in you. Whenever there is difficulty, let me do exactly what you did – turn to the Father and entrust everything to Him. And now that you are at His side in heaven always interceding for me – for all of us – I trust you, too, Lord Jesus. Please help me to trust you even more with all my heart.
