God’s Generosity

The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Eugene Docoy SVD – University of San Carlos – Cebu City

Saturday 6th Week of Easter

Every now and then I receive thanksgiving mass intentions for answered prayers. People receive blessings from the Lord; they offer mass in gratitude for the favor.

When we ask a favor from the Lord, we mostly likely get it. Not immediately or exactly as we want it to be but in most cases the Lord would not be so stingy as to withhold whatever we ask from him.

A few clues might be helpful for petitions to be granted by the Lord. First, what we ask from the Lord should be what we really need. We do not ask for fashion or for luxuries.

Second, what we ask should be appropriate and reasonable. We do not ask for things that are overpriced, not locally available, hard to produce, dangerous to health or hazardous to the environment. For sure the Lord will not give us cigarettes, hard liquor, illegal drugs or jewelry.

Third, we need to have patience as well. We cannot dictate the Lord when our petitions should be granted. We can only make a request but the Lord has His own timing and knowledge as to when and how the granting of petitions should happen.

In addition, the gift the Lord would appropriate to us should be received with gratitude and be utilized in a responsible and useful manner.

The Lord is never outdone in generosity. All we need to do is reciprocate His kindness with good stewardship. When we do so, there would be no limit to our access to the graces of the Lord. We can ask Him help again and again.
