The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Jay Flandez SVD – Hong Kong
Saturday 5th Week of Easter
Love will never die!
Jesus was hated, rejected and crucified because of his love and obedience to the will of the Father. His love was so powerful that he was willing to give his life for the salvation of humanity. Because of Jesus’ love, we learn that death has no more power to conquer love. True love will never die.
Jesus in today’s gospel reminds his disciples that the world will hate them because they choose to follow and preach the Kingdom of God. When we follow the Lord there will be times when we will be challenged and sometimes friends will discourage us. They may pull us down so that we would not be successful in life, in our ministry, and in transforming society towards the Kingdom of God. But we should not give up doing what is good and right in our quest for holiness.
If we experience persecution and rejection because we uphold what is true, right and just, remember that they persecuted Jesus first. We are not alone in our quest for doing good, Jesus is with us. And, if Jesus is with us we will be victorious because he has already conquered the world.
Let us remember that what is true and good will last forever. Jesus proved that to us through his resurrection – his love for us will never end.
