Monday 5th Week in Ordinary Time
Faith can move mountains. Faith heals. This is the core message of the Gospel today, the faith of the people in Jesus.
Everybody knows that Jesus heals. Wherever he goes, people bring their sick relatives and friends for him to touch and heal them.
What is there in Jesus that people of all walks of life are drawn to him? It is the personality of the Lord because he does not discriminate against anybody. He welcomes everyone, sinner or saint, Gentile or Jew, servant or free. This makes him an extraordinary person with an extraordinary heart.
The truth is, everyone has the gift of healing. Yes, I got sick and suffered a lot, and was healed. We experience brokenness, but the decision to nurture the pain lies with us. We are free to decide to let go of that pain and move on.
The scar of the past will remain for a time and others for life. To be enslaved by the negative experience will not help us grow. It will even drive people away from us. But once we have decided to let go of it, we will immediately feel the presence of God who will help us cope with it. Once we can move on to live a new life, it is now our turn to listen to the stories of others. This is now the sign that slowly we become a healer, a WOUNDED HEALER.
We heal others of their pain when we listen to their repetitive stories of painful experiences. This wounded society needs a LISTENING HEART, a heart that is open to absorb the stories of sorrows and pains of life, and a heart that is ready to accommodate the pleadings of forgiveness of others.
Healing is what this world needs. Let us pray that God will touch our hearts and minds that we, too, would have a listening heart and become a wounded healer.
