Today’s Gospel narrative of the resurrection of Jesus is concerned about details that should make people believe that indeed the Lord Jesus has risen.
Court witnesses are always made to swear by the Bible and would pledge to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. As a witness places himself on the witness stand, he may lie, but he is obliged to supply the details of the truth he knows to become believable to the judge or to the jury.
“He saw and believed.”
As a professed witness, I would want others to see what I see and to believe what I believe. Unlike the disciples, I did not see the Lord Jesus physically but I have seen him in and through different people and events I have encountered.
I see him as he truly is among the poor, the needy, the marginalized, the oppressed, and among the wealthy, powerful, and influential whose lives have made the Lord alive because they reach out to each other with the love of the Christ who suffered, died and had risen.
I believe, and I see.
I want to think that I am a witness to the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, although I wasn’t there when God raised him from death. So, I pray that my life: everything that I am and do will provide the details that people ought to know and see that the Lord Jesus is truly alive today.
Like the beloved disciple who is traditionally considered as the Evangelist of the 4th Gosepl, our authentique love of Christ seen in our acts and words will similarly show that Jesus is indeed present among us.
