Understanding with God

The WORD in other words (2022) by Brother Miloy Bulihan SVD – Holy Name University, Tagbilaran

Saturday 25th Week in Ordinary Time

I have a close friend. Every time he wants to tell me something interesting, he would say, “Miloy, you know, I have something important to tell you.” Interested to know what, I would quickly ask, “Sure, what about?” Then, he would reply, “Ah, no worry, maybe not this time.” Then he would change topic. This left me hanging and made me mad sometimes.

In today’s Gospel, it appears that Jesus is playing games with his disciples. He wants to tell something very important to his followers, but he does not want them to understand what he will be telling them. It sounds ironic, isn’t it?

I do not have an answer to this. I do not understand why Jesus must do this. Like the disciples, I am also afraid to ask the meaning of what he is saying. I think there are happenings in our life that, for now, we could not fully understand until slowly, as events pass by, we could say, “Aha now I understand why God let those things happen to me.”
