A father has two sons. The elder one is gifted intellectually, but the father admittedly says that he is lazy and does not do his homework. The younger one is just an average student but very studious and responsible. Asked by a friend who will be a success between the two sons, the father honestly said it would be the younger son because he uses the gifts God has given him well.

We are all “talented,” Pope Francis would say. God gives to each one talents according to one’s capacity. Together with the talents, however, comes the responsibility. What do we do with the talents and blessings God has given us? In the first place, do we appreciate and are grateful for what God has endowed us? And then do we use them well, develop and share them? It is in sharing our talents that we will be given more so that we will be able to share all the more.

Consider faith as a “talent” (gift) entrusted to us. Do we live out such faith in our life? We Filipinos have been gifted with this talent (Christian faith) for more than 500 years already. Have we honestly lived out and shared our faith with others? The Church reminds us that we have the responsibility and mission to share the gift of faith with our non-Christian brothers and sisters in Asia.
