Have Faith

The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Vic Rayco SVD – Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City

Saturday 18th Week in Ordinary Time

A story is told of a town that suffered from drought. After a long wait for the rain that was not coming, the desperate townspeople asked the priest to lead them in praying for one. Of course the priest was only too willing to help pray for the miracle of rain.

But at the designated time when the whole town was gathered to pray for the longed-for miracle, the priest refused to lead them. Baffled at the priest’s suddenchange of heart, they asked him why.

He answered with an almost unsuppressed anger: “You are a people without faith! You want a miracle but none of you has faith.”

“How could you say that?” they replied as surprised as when they asked him why.

“None of you brought an umbrella!” declared the priest.

Compare that to the security guard who believed that he would be a lawyer. He did become one.

Compare that to the parents who did not believe that their child would amount to anything. The child did not even try to succeed.

Jesus said, “If you have a faith even the size of a mustard seed, you can tell the mountain to move and it will move.”
