The WORD in other words by Fr Bar Fabella SVD – St. Joseph Parish, Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro
Tuesday 17th Week in Ordinary Time
Following Jesus means knowing Him with the heart, not just with the lips. Like the disciples, we are slow learners in this regard. It is easy to read and recite Jesus’ words, but it is hard to apply them in our lives. It is like singing the lyrics of a song without feeling their meaning or dancing to music with steps that are ‘out of tune.’
We know it well from experience that within us exist strengths and weaknesses. In us, we daily feel the competition between our goodness and our faults. As a song goes, “Nais kong bumait pero ‘di ko magawa!” It’s always a struggle to be good.
The best we can do is exert extra effort and ask for God’s grace and assistance.
Offer to him all the good we do and ask for healing and forgiveness for our weaknesses and failures. Let his presence fill our lives. Listen to his words and reject the voices that lead us away from Him.
