The WORD in other words (2022) by Frater Ian Mark Limbag SVD – Divine Word Seminary, Tagaytay
Tuesday 8th Week in Ordinary Time
Peter was telling Jesus how he sacrificed a lot and followed the Lord. Was he expecting some sort of a reward? Jesus’ response was full of promise and challenges at the same time.
On one hand he mentioned the cost of following him, like breaking ties with the loved ones and property. On the other hand, his followers will not be bereft of people who will love them in the community that they will serve.
At times we develop doubts about the mission that God had given us. What shall my future be? Where will my work lead me? The Gospel today expresses the popular saying that God is never outdone in generosity. We simply follow Jesus, and the rest we leave in his hands; he will provide security, meaning and fulfillment in life.
What I have said above happens in my life. Surely I have given up everything, nevertheless, I still have some doubts with regards security and what the future looks like. In moments of doubts I use my “secret weapon”—FAITH!
Trusting in the Lord’s goodness I feel blessed and encouraged. Even now I encounter friends who give warmth and inspiration to my studies and work. Sacrificing for the sake of the kingdom is a never ending adventure and has certainly a sure end.
