The WORD in other words (2021) by Fr. Jun Castro, SVD (Yangon, Myanmar)
Wednesday 4th Week in Ordinary Time
When we celebrate Teacher’s Day, we thank teachers not only for what they taught us but more so for who they have been to us as genuine persons. We feel too that their deeds flow from their wisdom.
In this gospel text, we see that aside from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them, Jesus showed more by his way of teaching. Although they did not fully understand his instructions at times, they kept a close ear to every word He said because they felt authority and integrity flowing from Him.
The impact of Jesus’ person and his teachings can bring life-changing effects on the listener.
A quote from Henry Brooks Adams says: “Teachers affect eternity; no one can tell where their influence stops.” Believe in the impact that Jesus and His teachings can work on us! But first, we must strive to get to know Jesus’ person for His teachings to have more lasting effects than merely a sense of wonder.
