The WORD in other words (2022) by Fr Carlos Macatanga SVD — Cristo Rei Parish, Canada
Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul
Today the Church celebrates the conversion of Saint Paul as well as the culmination of a weeklong celebration of Christian unity. The feast of the conversion of Saint Paul is an invitation to all of us to make a return to the Lord; to open our hearts to God`s revelation and to remind ourselves that the life of Jesus is our life and his mission our mission.
The Sunday of the Word of God (last Sunday) is an excellent jumping board for the feast today: after his conversion, Paul became an ardent missionary of the Word of God proclaiming it to every creature.
The year 2020 will forever be part of our narrative. So much has changed due to the pandemic that has taken the lives of millions, altered the lives of many and have scarred men and women, young and old. It was a challenging year especially to people of faith.
As we try to return to the “old normal” may we be inspired by the Gospel passage today: “They will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents (with their hands), and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Now more than ever, we need to proclaim the gospel that brings healing and wholeness to all. May the life and faith of Saint Paul inspire us to be faithful to God and continue the mission of Christ: PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE, and if I may add, WITH JOY!
