Celebration! That is the universal experience associated with a wedding feast. One cannot imagine a wedding without a reception where family and friends gather and enjoy each other’s company.

The Old Testament portrays the relationship between Israel and Yahweh as a marriage covenant. In this covenant, Israel was depicted as the bride while Yahweh was the bridegroom. Often, Israel was seen as the unfaithful one, while Yahweh continued to be faithful, whatever the circumstances, in this covenant relationship. Jesus was not an ordinary teacher or rabbi since the title “bridegroom” was reserved only for God.

While it is true that the cross is part of the Christian life, it is also true that God on the cross is the same God who brought us joy. He created the heavens and the earth and everything that would make human beings happy. He created the sun and stars, the flowers, the birds, and the bees. Indeed, He did not want a gloomy Christian, so He created laughter and human delights. Joy that would last forever, that’s what Christ brought us.
