Mary Magnifies the Lord!

The WORD in other words (2021) by Fr Jerry Orbos SVD

December 22 / Octave before Christmas

The story is told about a frog who wanted to climb to the top of the well where he could see the light, but as he did, all the other frogs kept shouting: “It’s impossible! Forget it! You won’t make it!” But the frog just kept on going towards the light, and finally made it! How? Why? This frog was deaf.

Mama Mary was deaf to what people thought or said about her. She was focused on God’s will – knowing it and doing it. Docility and tenacity to God’s will!

The secret of Mama Mary’s life was that she magnified (make big) the Lord, and not her blessings, pains, and sufferings. That is why she remained joyful and hopeful through it all.

Many of us do the opposite; that is why our life is not a one big magnificat, but “mabigat.”

Please remember that life is not just about making money or making a name, but about making a difference. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, famous or unknown – just do your best, and make a difference by your presence and love.

Let us spend the rest of our lives magnifying the Lord, and minimizing ourselves. He must increase; we must decrease. May we become less a child of this world, and more a child of God.

The rest of my life, the best of my life.

Just live until you die.

Love and inspire before you expire.
