December 21 / Octave before Christmas
The visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her cousin Elizabeth is a beautiful example of bringing and sharing the good news of God’s salvation with others.
Even though it was difficult for Mary who was pregnant to travel 70 miles from Nazareth to EinKarem, she still took the trouble because she would like to share the good news she received from God. Likewise, she also would like to be of service to her cousin Elizabeth who was also pregnant in her old age.
We also have our own problems and personal concerns that often make us indifferent to others. If we look at our surroundings, we will discover many people who are in dire need of help and attention. Despite our personal needs, if we try hard enough, we can always have something to give to others.
As we await the coming of Jesus on Christmas day, may we be inspired by the Blessed Mother. Let us not forget to reach out to others and make other people happy this yuletide season.
If Jesus is truly present in our hearts, then like Mary in today’s Gospel, we can bring Jesus to others. We can also be bearers of good tidings this Christmas season so that we may experience the real joy of Christmas.
