The Parable of the Talents in today’s Gospel (Luke 19, 1-28) challenges a person to decide between two possible choices. On the one hand, it can encourage me to put to good use my God-given gifts. On the other, it can frighten me into inaction. What or who can help me?
Humbly I ask for the help of the Spirit of Jesus to:
- Open my mind and heart to recognize the gifts that the all-loving God gave me and continues to provide me day after day
- Give me a grateful heart that knows how to say THANK YOU to Him as well as to everyone whom He sends my way to help me become the best I can be
- Empower me to put my gifts and my life at the service of others, especially the least, so that all may come to know God’s merciful and saving love
- Banish all fear from my heart so that I can follow Jesus wherever He leads me.
No matter how much or how insignificant my talents are, God can and will do marvelous things in me and through me provided I say, like Mother Mary and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, “Yes, Lord, be it done unto me according to Your word.”
