The WORD in Other Words by Fr Vic Rayco SVD (Philippines)
Good memories keep us going. They bring back the smile on our face even if those experiences were long ago and very few know about them. They sustain marriages on the rocks. They re-inspire tired consecrated people. They are like wellsprings of cool water in the middle of the desert.
I was a little boy with the church pew up to my neck when I realized that I really wanted to become a priest. I wanted to be able to hold Jesus. There was excitement as my heart beat faster and my mouth was ajar with wonder. I could still point to that place where it all happened.
Very much like that time when Peter, James, and John finally experienced and understood Jesus’ divinity and mission. This transfiguration experience sustained them even after “the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
This feast, therefore, invites us to continue creating good memories in ourselves, among ourselves, and with God. They will go a long way. Yes, good memories keep us going.
