The WORD in Other Words by Fr Fr Jun Javines SVD (Philippines) for Thursday 17th Week in Ordinary Time
The implementation of Republic Act (RA) 10533, otherwise known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, provides a very dynamic avenue for the improvement of the Philippine educational landscape so that it can be at par with the ASEAN and the Global community.
Considering greatly that it is a new program, it has to be handled by competent managers whose vision is to paint a promising result rather than a manager who pretends to be intelligent but detached from the realities thus painting a very bleak picture. Simply put, the educational reform is more of an opportunity, a wake-up call towards pro-active change rather than one that is to be threatened by such change.
The analogy of the fish net vis-a-vis end time narrative is more of a wake-up call rather than a threat. The difference is whether you are pro-active or reactive upon hearing the Good news of the Lord. Since we are gifted with life by the Lord, it is just but proper to ask whether we are taking advantage of this gift.
Do we capitalize this gift called life to serve people or to control people? To be compassionate or to manipulate? To bring people closer to the fold of the Church or to drive them away because of our pharisaical legalistic perspective.
