The WORD in Other Words by Fr Louie Punzalan SVD (Philippines) for Tuesday 14th Week in Ordinary Time
This gospel narrative reveals to us that the attitude of the crowd is amazed wonder; the attitude of the Pharisees is poisonous hatred. Indeed the heart feels what the eye sees.
The crowd, composed of simple people with a crying sense of need, met Jesus with awe and wonder. But the Pharisees viewed Jesus with suspicion and accused him of being in cahoots with the powers of evil.
Whatever people say about Jesus, He is herald, teacher and healer. During his short public ministry Jesus was feeding, teaching and healing. Many times Jesus was moved with pity and compassion for the crowd. He realized that he needed helpers to assist him in feeding, teaching and healing all those who came in need.
There is so much hunger and pain, loneliness and desolation that confronts human being sin the world. Jesus alone is able to wipe away our tears and sorrows in life. He knows how we think and feel. He is like us in all things but sin.
