An update from Fr Flavie Villanueva SVD, the Justice & Peace and Integrity of Creation Coordinator of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD – Societas Verbe Divini) and Director of the Kalinga Project

After being accosted and driven away by our Brgy Chairman (Allan Yamson of Brgy 344, Sta.Cruz, Manila) and some policemen, Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center decided to seek for a place where the homeless and their families can be better cared for and secured amidst the veerus of human beings & COVID19.

We were welcomed at the doors of De La Salle University and
Tahanan of St.Scholastica with gladness and open arms. They are now at DLSU Enrique Razon Sports Complex – 69 beneficiaries and 10 volunteers at; DLSU CSB Covered Court – 69 pax, Tahanan by St.Scholastica – 20 senior women and a mother with 7 children;

A total of 168 homeless, cared and secured!

Today we will pick up 100 more homeless and bring them to 2 other “safe spaces”. In this moment of turmoil, all they could image is a place where they won’t be shouted at or driven away like garbage. All they hope is an ounce of understanding and a some kindness when the dictate is to insulate oneself.
