Teach us to trust

The WORD in Other Words by Fr Roderick Salazar SVD (Philippines) Thursday Week 27 Ordinary Time, Mal 3:13-20b, Lk 11:5-13

Oh, Jesus, Word of God made man. It is comforting that Your becoming human was real, not make-believe. You understand our experiences. Your stories are picturesque.   Although You use images of Your time, we can identify with the situations You paint.

Many of us live in crowded homes and places. Any change in our physical setting,   especially deep in the night, is upsetting. But you know that we would do anything   if only to recover our comfort and peace of mind.

Any persistent and urgent need  we would settle so we can get back our rest. And so You tell us that if this is how we behave, how much more would Your Father in heaven and ours behave when we pray to Him constantly, continuously, even persistently. He will respond, You tell us, precisely because He loves us. Thank you for this assurance.

And if it seems to us long before He hears us and replies, please teach us to trust, to accept that answers will   come to us in time. Help us to see in faith that when we ask, we will receive — though not always in the form we expect, in the place that we want, at the time we demand.

When we search, we will find — if not what we were looking for, then something else,   perhaps better. When we knock, the door will be opened. Forgive me, Lord, if my sight is narrow, my patience short, my loving shallow, my heart so hard.
