SVDs provide inclusive education opportunities thru Alternative Learning System

Divine Word Missionaries in the Philippines have been providing formal education since they began their evangelisation work and services in 1908. They founded and took over the administration of parochial schools, colleges, seminaries and universities all over the country.

Recently, Divine Word Missionaries have ventured into the non-formal education to address the need of many out of school youths and non-schooled adults to get the necessary academic credentials and skills needed in todays very competitive socio-economic environment.

To address this particular education issue, several Divine Word Missionaries tried and introduced the Alternative Learning System for out of school youths and non-schooled adults and established Arnold Janssen Catholic Mission Foundation, Inc. for this purpose.

The Arnold Janssen Catholic Mission Foundation website narrates its beginning as follows:

Arnold Janssen Catholic Mission Foundation, Inc. (AJCMFI) was established in 2002, initially with the purpose of supporting the construction of the Simbahan ng Jesus Nazareno. However, the conditions of the urban relocates, who were informal settlers from Manila, provided a new understanding of its missionary dimension.

Fr Jerome Marquez SVD currently leads the organisation as its Executive Director, and Fr Randy Flores SVD and Fr Flaviano Villanueva SVD also provide help as members of the Board of Trustees.
