The WORD in Other Words by Fr Felix Ferrer SVD (Philippines)

A lady catechist had a heart attack and found herself in front of the pearly gates. When she knocked, she heard a voice asking her for the password. (Wow, even in heaven there is need to have a password!). She mentioned her name and even proudly declared that she was a catechist. The answer of the angel was,“Sorry, wrong password, access denied. Wait for another two weeks!”

So she reflected on her life and realized that she was mean to her children and servantmaids. She was also a nagger to her husband.

Two weeks passed, and this time she felt ready to face the angel of the gates. When she knocked again, the voicewas heard, “Your password please!” And she responded, “Love!” The trumpets sounded and the gates opened very widely for her. “You hit the right password. Access granted.”

I believe that the Gospel of today just gives us the most important thing to remember – Love God and neighbor as yourself. The Scribe knew the “password” and the Lord told him: “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” May we not only memorize the “password” in our heads, but apply it in our day-to-day life despite the reality that it is not easy to live it in our families, community and society. God bless us all.
