Saturday 2nd Week of Easter
A tourist once asked how much a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee would cost. When told it was $100, he quipped: “No wonder Jesus walked on the water!” The humor aside, the Gospel reminds us that life often feels like being tossed about on stormy seas. We face fears, limitations, and inadequacies that make us hesitate, detour, or even stop altogether.
In those moments, we need to hear Jesus’ words: “It is I; do not be afraid” (John 6:20). Fear paralyzes, but trust liberates. As Isaiah proclaims: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God” (Isaiah 41:10).
Fear is useless; what is needed is trust. When Peter walked on water, he began to sink the moment he doubted. Jesus reached out His hand and said: “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31). The lesson is clear: the more we trust in God, the less fear controls us.
Reflection
- Is there a fear haunting me right now?
- Do I face the light of Christ so that shadows fall behind me?
- Do I surrender my anxieties to Jesus, trusting His presence?
As we go on and grow on, may we become less fearful because we have become more trusting in God rather than in ourselves. Let our prayer be simple yet profound:
“Jesus, You know me. You know everything about me. I surrender everything to You. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.”
