Ezekiel proclaims: “Wherever the river flows, all living creatures teeming in it will live” (Ez. 47:8–9). God’s love is like a river — abundant, life-giving, and healing. In today’s Gospel, we see this river flowing into the life of a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years, waiting helplessly by the pool of Bethesda.
The Encounter with Jesus
This man longed for healing but had no one to help him into the water. Then Jesus came and asked: “Do you want to be well again?” With a word, Jesus healed him: “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” He did not need the pool; he needed the Living Water Himself. Jesus entered his life and made him whole.
Love as Healing
This miracle reminds us that healing often begins with love. How many people around us are lonely, depressed, or hurting? A thoughtful word, a gentle touch, or even a compassionate look can bring wholeness. Love heals — and it knows no boundaries of time or season. Even on the Sabbath, Jesus showed that love cannot be postponed.
As the song says:
“Love is flowing like a river,
flowing out of you and me,
flowing out into the desert,
making all the captives free.”
Our Call
God still works miracles today, but He often chooses to work through us. We are invited to be channels of His healing presence — rivers of love flowing into the deserts of people’s lives.
Conclusion
The river of God’s love brings life wherever it flows. Let us allow His Living Water to heal us, and then let it flow through us to heal others.
“Lord Jesus, Living Water, heal me and make me whole. Let Your love flow through me, so that I may be a channel of Your healing presence to others.”
