The WORD in other words (2010) by Sr. Isabel Angela Mejia, SSpS – Manila
Wednesday 12th Week in Ordinary Time
When I was in College, campaign period for places in the Student Council Board was a noisy and placard posting time. Different parties and candidates had their own platforms and promises to the student body. There were promises of fun-filled curricular activities, less projects, student representation, etc. These were meant to ease the burden of studying and have more fun. Happily, the leaders who promised an easy life never won, thanks to the good sense of the students.
How shall we know a good leader? By his deeds we can tell who is a good leader. He is upright and leads others to do good. He does not lie nor cheat, doesn’t do things for his own benefit but thinks of the welfare of others. His values are those of Christ. Such is a good leader and this leader is the one we should follow and support.
The false prophets preach the easy way of life which is contrary to the gospel teaching. They will keep silent regarding the carrying of one’s cross, following moral laws or doing God’s will. They don’t practice what they preach. And that is why Jesus warns against them because they can influence and confuse unsuspecting believers and lead people astray.
