The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Jose Caballes SVD – Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Quezon City
Wednesday 27th Week in Ordinary Time
I’m constantly wondering why after more than 2000 years since Jesus introduced God as a Father, people still find it strange to call God in a more personal way.
Isn’t this what our present age is engaged in whenever we express a protective force to someone by saying, “May the Force be with you…”? Understandably our minds are shaped by “Starwars and science-fiction” movies that God is simply represented as a cosmic force or a cosmic energy.
I think Christians have done great disservice in not presenting our religion as a personal relationship with God. This impersonal attitude to a Supreme Being was already present in the ancient Greeks who worshipped an unknown God that Paul had to introduce the God of Jesus as a Father.
As believers in Jesus, we are fortunate because we address our hopes and aspirations to someone not to something, to a Father and not to a stranger. God becoming a player in our daily living and not as someone detached from our daily existence.
Added to this is the thought that God being a Father is a perfect father and therefore has only loving concern for us His children. Isn’t that wonderful to have God as a Father?
May our Father help us always appreciate His loving embrace.
