The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Bernardo Collera SVD – Divine Word College of Legazpi
Saturday 2nd Week of Easter
Afraid, the disciples must have felt consoled on hearing Jesus say, “It is I, do not be afraid.”
When fear strikes and we don’t have any means to manage our impulses, the easier thing to do is to shout or run away, or maybe freeze. It is thus important to remember relaxation tips, like deep breathing. The deeper the relaxation, the clearer our thinking processes become, the easier it is to take the right course of action. Couple that with the faith that Jesus walks with us, that he is with us, we can reach an even deeper sense of relaxation such that the right choice becomes just an inch away.
Remembering the words Jesus spoke to the disciples, “It is I, do not be afraid,” while doing deep breathing exercises can help us manage our emotions, particularly fear. The more we make deep breathing a habit, the more handy it becomes in moments of grave danger, or maybe even in darkness.
Prayer:
As I take deep breaths O Lord Jesus, I remember that You are walking with me and my other companions. As the oxygen enters my system providing the food my body cells need, I keep in mind that You are strengthening and reinvigorating me, providing me with energy and courage to face my life’s trials.
Thank you for always being with me. Let me do Your will so my deeper faith in and love for You become the peace I share to those You give me to live with and serve. Keep me focused, living for You, in You, through You, for the glory of the Father with the Holy Spirit, complete with the maternal care of Mary, Your Mother and ours too, now and forever. Amen.
