The WORD in other words (2018) by Fr Emmanuel Menguito SVD – Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City
Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter – February 22
The 21st century has been a leadership of two great Popes – John Paul II and Pope Francis – amidst a turbulent world wracked by division because of selfish interests and contrasting ideologies and a loss of the sense of God.
Both Popes have seen the need to call back people to believing in God again and to be moved into action in helping others based on such a belief. They have bravely risen to such a challenge despite knowing that harsh criticisms and even hostility were to come their way by speaking out.
The words of the Lord as said to his apostles before he ascended into heaven come to my mind: “Behold I will be with you until the end of the world.” Jesus assured the apostles of his abiding presence even if he was not to be physically present to them anymore.
Throughout time and history, the Lord has proven himself faithful to his words. He has sent the above mentioned Popes to lead the Church and shepherd the Lord’s flock in the midst of many difficulties and somewhat insurmountable odds.
“Stay with us Lord,” is my prayer and yours. Definitely, stay with us through the good and holy Popes you have sent to us and will be sending to us in the future.
